Kamapua‘a,
the “Hog Child”

$275

In Hawaiian mythology, Kamapua‘a, or “hog child,” is a fertility demigod associated with Lono, the god of agriculture. The son of Hina and Oahu’s chief Kahikiula, Kamapua‘a is known for his shape-shifting abilities, especially into a pig.

Famous for his tumultuous romance with Pele, the fire goddess, Kamapua‘a's persistence transforms her lava into fertile soil. Their passionate and conflict-ridden relationship led to the division of the island—Pele took the west, and Kamapua‘a the east—highlighting the vibrant nature of Hawaiian mythology.
