Queen & Cooke

The Kewalo Theater, an elegant Art Deco landmark, was inaugurated by Consolidated Theatre on November 5, 1937, with a screening of Shirley Temple’s film Wee Willie Winkie. Located at the corner of Queen Street and Cooke Street, the theater is situated in a rapidly developing urban area and is within walking distance of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project, which was still under construction at the time. The photograph was taken on February 9, 2019.
